PROFESSIONALLY

  • I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Journalism, then moved to NYC to work in print magazines just before the internet exploded and everything went digital. I worked as a writer and editor for 8 years, then had a brief stint as a teacher before changing gears and becoming a therapist.

  • I received my Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University’s School of Social Service in 2009 and have counseled hundreds of New Yorkers in community-based clinics. I’ve been in my Astoria private practice for six years.

  • I believe that a strong therapeutic alliance is the not-so-secret ingredient to success in therapy. I aim to create an atmosphere that is accepting, compassionate, non-judgmental, safe, and even a little fun.

  • While my therapeutic style is eclectic in nature (and individually tailored to each client’s needs) I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I aim to help clients learn how to identify and regulate emotions, manage acute anxiety symptoms and practice self-compassion.

  • I’m a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and have extensive experience working with survivors of domestic and community violence, medical trauma, childhood neglect and mistreatment, as well as sexual, emotional, financial, and physical abuse.

  • I served as a clinical supervisor for the St. Mark’s Institute in Manhattan from 2013-2018.

PERSONALLY

  • I’m a born-and-raised Texan but have proudly called New York City home for the last 25 years.

  • Every now and then a very slight Texas accent slips out… usually when I’m excited about something or quoting my dad.

  • Things I geek out over: international travel, flea markets, old bookstores with creaky wood flooring, cooking, creative writing, very long walks with no destination in mind, thrift and vintage stores, cheese, coffee and carbs.

  • All of my favorite movies were directed by Robert Linklater and most of my favorite books were written by John Irving.

  • I’m obsessed with Astoria and am very, very happy to have an office here. I’m not sure how I ever lived without 24-hour produce markets and 15 varieties of feta.

  • I’m much more likely to wear jeans and a blazer to sessions than a suit. Anything that has to be ironed is usually ruled out 10 minutes before I’m due at work. No dice on heels either.

  • If you are experiencing anxiety, I will probably ask you how much caffeine you drink. However, I’ll never tell you to flat-out stop drinking coffee because I’m not a monster.
